Every Monday evening, except holidays, our horse contest coaches conduct weekly 4-H Horse Discovery nights. During these sessions, youth learn lots about horses. Coaches primarily utilize Horse & Horsemanship and Horse Science reference manuals during these events. A variety of activities such as games, video, PowerPoint, and lecture formats are utilized.
These events are open to 4-H members in 3rd-12th grades and their parents. Youth do not need to have a horse to participate - only a desire to learn about horses!
4-H Horse Discovery Nights are free and no pre-registration is required. However, new attendees are encouraged to call the office (399-8202) to verify that the class hasn’t been canceled due to holidays, weather or other emergencies.
By participating in these events, youth will gain knowledge and skills that will help them with their own horses and excel in Horse Bowl, Horse Judging, demonstration and speech contests, and the horse testing program.
