Talent Contest

Dates:  Youth can schedule an appointment with Wendy Rees (399-8202) to compete on one of the following contest dates.  These are the only contest dates that will be offered, so do not wait until the last minute and expect to get to compete in June.  Only 13 slots are available during each contest day.

  • Wednesday, February 17
  • Wednesday, March 17
  • Wednesday, April 21
  • Wednesday, May 19
  • Wednesday, June 16
Registration Deadline:  One week prior to contest date.
Location:  Extension Office
Time: By appointment; appointments scheduled every 15 minutes between 2:00 - 5:30 p.m.  Arrive promptly and be ready at your assigned appointment time.

Team or Individual:  Individual or teams of two, three or four members.   To be eligible for state competition, all team members must be in 9th-12th grades. 

Eligibility:  Weber County 4-H Club members in 3-12 grades.

Description: Youth share a talent performance in the discipline of their choice such a vocal, drama, dance, instrumental, comedy, etc. 

  • Maximum time per act is five minutes; no minimum time.
  • 4-H will only provide the following:  a CD player and an electric keyboard piano.  All other equipment needed MUST be provided by the contestant.
  • Acts which require excessive set up will not be allowed.

Judging Forms:   The following judging criteria will be utilized for the contest.

Awards:  Each youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbon based on the Danish judging system:

·          Blue (excellent): 90-100 ($3 clover bucks)

·          Red (good ): 75-89 ($2 clover bucks)

·           White (fair): 74 and below

* Clover Bucks are vouchers that can be used to pay for 4-H workshops, camps, county t-shirts, resource rentals from the Weber County 4-H office, project manuals, and can also be redeemed for 4-H merchandise (pens, flip flops, clothings, etc.) during Clover Days in December.  Clover Bucks cannot be replaced and expire by the date listed on the voucher.

Next Steps:

 ·          County youth in 9-12 grades who earn a blue ribbon in the county contest will be invited to compete during State Contests in July.
