Demo: "All 4-H Projects"

Description: Using posters, displays and other visual aids, youth prepare and deliver a presentation on any topic.  Youth may choose to use either a demonstration format or an illustrated talk.  In a demonstration format, the child shows or demonstrates the steps to make a final product. In an illustrated talk, the member provides information about a topic, without actually demonstrating how to make a product.

Youth can select one of the following categories:
 
  • SCIENCE, ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY – Includes but is not limited to:
    • Consumer & Family Science (i.e., Child Care, Home Environment, Consumer Education)
    • Technology and Engineering (i.e., Rocketry, Computers, Robotics, etc.)
    • Environmental Education (i.e., Shooting Sports, Outdoor Education, Water, etc)
    • Animals (all except Horse)
    • Plants (i.e., Gardening, Horticulture, etc)
  • HEALTHY LIVING EDUCATION – Includes but is not limited to:
    • Food Preservation
    • Health (i.e., First Aid, CPR, Healthy Living, etc)
    • Personal Safety (i.e., ATV Safety, Emergency Preparedness, etc)
  • CITIZENSHIP – Includes but are not limited to:
    • Citizenship and Civic Education (i.e., Global Education, Community Service, etc)
    • Personal Development (i.e., Leadership, Career Exploration, Hobbies, etc)
    • Communications & Expressive Arts (i.e., Crafts, Performing Arts, Photography, etc.)

Dates:  Youth can schedule an appointment with Wendy Rees (399-8202) to compete on one of the following contest dates.  These are the only contest dates that will be offered, so do not wait until the last minute and expect to get to compete in June.  Only 13 slots are available during each contest day.

Eligibility: Grades 3-12

Team or Individual: Individual or teams of two.

Time Limits:
  • Juniors and Intermediates:  No minimum (5 minute minimum is recommended); 10 minute maximum.
  • Seniors: 10-15 minutes

Judging Criteria:  Demonstrations are judged using this criteria.

Awards:  Each youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbon based on the Danish judging system:

·          Blue (excellent): 90-100 ($3 clover bucks)

·           Red (good ): 75-89 ($2 clover bucks)

·           White (fair): 74 and below

Next Steps:
  •  County youth in 9th-12th grades who earn a blue ribbon in the county contest will be invited to compete during State Contests in July.
