Chef Extraordinaire

Dates:  If space allows, we will conduct this event at the same time as the 4-H Healthy Cuisine contest on January 21, 2010.  If space does not allow, we will schedule an individual appointment at the member's home.  Call Naomi Weeks at 399-8206 if interested in this contest.

Eligibility: 6-12 Grades

Team or Individual: Individuals or teams of two.  Teams must be made up of youth in the same grade division.

Registration Deadline:  January 15, 2010

Location:  Orion Junior High School

Time:  4 p.m.

Description: Youth plan, prepare and serve a nutritionally balanced dinner for four guests and a judge within a three hour time limit.  The recipes selected should not contribute excessive amounts of fat, sugar, or sodium.  Special consideration will be given to those recipes that are high in vitamins, minerals, and fiber.   Contestants must clean up within the three-hour period.

Awards:  Each youth receives a certificate and earns a blue, red or white ribbon based on the Danish judging system:

·          Blue (excellent): 90-100 ($3 clover bucks)

·           Red (good ): 75-89 ($2 clover bucks)

·           White (fair): 74 and below

Guidelines:  For our county contest, you will be required to submit recipes and all forms at the time of registration.

Resources:  This Utah 4-H Chef Extraordinaire contest guidlines will be most helpful as you prepare for this contest. 

Judging:  Contestants will be evaluated using this judging sheet.

Next Steps:

·          Youth in 9th - 12th grades earning a blue ribbon in the county contest are invited to compete in State Contests in July.
