4-H Livestock Tests

From November through July, 4-H members can compete in the 4-H Livestock Test program.   Members become eligible for a county award once they complete three tests on the same species.

Each month tests are prepared for all four species: beef, sheep, swine, and goats. Youth can select the test for the species they are studying. Separate tests are prepared for younger children and older children. The tests are a combination of true/false, multiple choice, and fill-in-the-blank. Most youth complete a test in about ten minutes; there are approximately 15 questions per test. All the questions for the test come from the Ohio State University Resource manuals, which are available for purchase from the 4-H office.

To participate, youth can take the test on any day the 4-H office is open (M-F, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.), from the 15th through the end of the month.  Tests will be developed from the chapters listed below.

Each member's top three test scores are added to determin their total points.  Prior to the County Fair Auction, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd palce medals and premiums ($15, $10, and $5) are awarded to the members with the highest scores for each species, in each grade division.
